Welcome to Potty Training Failure, Round One
OK
So once we got my son off the bottle, he truly “discovered” REAL food. He usually picked at food, but loved milk. Now, he plows through crazy amounts of food for his age. Unfortunately, the “end” result is that his diapers are LEGENDARY, lol! We can’t WAIT to get him on the potty and out of the diapers. (hey, they’re EXPENSIVE!)
Now I’m trying to explain to my husband that he needs to start taking the baby into the bathroom with him, show him how it’s done. So, Jack takes Reilly into the bathroom with him, goes to open the toilet, and after seeing the flush, runs out of the bathroom screaming. Strike one. So I suggested we go buy a “cool” potty. Fisher Price has one that looks like a throne, and plays “royal” horns and music when he pees in it. So, we go to show him what it does by pouring a bit of water in it. He LOVED it! So much so that when I went to do the dishes, I never saw him flooding the bathroom floor trying to get it to play again. STRIKE TWO.
Somebody told me to get blue food coloring and put some in the toilet. Then let daddy show him how to turn the water green? (hey, I’ll try anything once…) End result? The baby trying to stick his hands in the stream while my husband went, then playing in the green water before Jack could grab him, and the baby having a pastel green hand because of it. (The irony? Did I mention that my husband is colorblind? READ:LOTS more food coloring than was needed) STRIKE 3, You’re OUT!
After all is said and done, 7 mothers and 3 books later, I know now that the kid will let you know when they’re ready to potty train. Reilly has just started to realize the “sensation” just before he goes. He’s on his way, just not there yet. In the meantime, here’s a new way to bust a gut while trying to potty train your kid…
